MEET THE OWNER
Mariama Bah
Founder & Owner, TJ's Hair Braiding
Mariama Bah grew up in Brooklyn, New York, in a home where hair braiding wasn’t just a skill — it was passed down. Her family’s roots trace back to West Africa, and she learned to braid the way most of us learn to tie our shoes: young, by watching, and by doing it over and over until her hands knew it better than her eyes did.
Over the next 20-plus years, Mariama worked in salons across multiple cities, picking up new techniques, styles, and ways of working with clients along the way. But she always had one goal in the back of her mind: running a shop of her own, built her way. That dream eventually brought her to St. Louis, where she opened TJ’s Hair Braiding.
Ask anyone who’s sat in her chair and they’ll tell you the same thing — Mariama is easy to talk to, she listens, and she knows exactly how to turn what you’re picturing in your head into a style that actually works for your hair. That combination of skill and genuine care is what she’s built the whole salon around.
